OOTD | (All) Black Out Edition

It’s that time of the year again, where social media is flooded with photos of persons across the diaspora embracing blackness. I couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate it (and my upcoming birthday)
than to post my post my outfit from The Amiri Baraka– Meetings and Remarkable Journeys Exhibition.

The collection is magnificent detailing of Baraka’s work over five decades. There was a viewing of his film “Dutchman”, which blew my mind.

That segment was followed by a Q&A session with Woodie King Jr who founded the New Federal Theater and dear friend of Baraka. He’s a great contributor to American history,  and it’s was the perfect celebration of blackness.

Since this was an art gallery opening, I chose something a little edgier and outside of my box.

I made the decision of pairing a linen  navy romper with my black felt hat and black blazer and chunky heels.  To break up the black I knew in my cognac oversized clutch to that held my camera, photo, agenda, and other little knick knacks.

I’ve had this particular romper for about 5 years now; picked it up at some boutique in SoHo. During my big closet clean out last year, this bad boy almost found its way to the donate pile. Looking at these pictures,I’m glad I changed my mind on about that decision.

Since summer is coming to an end, I’m savouring all the moments where I can show off my legs and wear shorts.

The next time I check in it’ll be autumn and I’ll be 21! See you on the flip side lovelies.
besos,
ItzaBri
